A special Service HeroesSM salute is extended to Travis Hill and Robert Wheeler, employees of a Jiffy Lube® service center in Roy, Utah owned by Griffin Fast Lube Services, Inc.
Travis and Robert watched as a Wide Horizons Care Center van went by the service center in flames. Both Jiffy Lube® employees sprang into action, grabbing fire extinguishers as they rushed to the vehicle as it came to a stop in a nearby parking lot. They began spraying the van as the driver and passengers climbed out.
As the police arrived on the scene, one of the passengers let Robert know there was someone else still in the van. Robert handed his fire extinguisher to a policeman to continue fighting the fire with Travis and then went inside the still-burning vehicle along with another policeman.
They found a disabled and blind young woman trapped in a wheelchair that was bolted to the floor of the vehicle. They managed to release the wheelchair and carry her out to safety.
Many thanks go to Robert and Travis for their courage that has brought new meaning to what it is to be Jiffy Lube® Service Heroes!
Support from Jiffy Lube and its customers to the Utah Food Bank has become a tradition of the holiday season. For the (XX) consecutive year, all 55 Jiffy Lube service centers in the state served as drop-off points for people to contribute food to the Utah Food Bank. This past November and December, Jiffy Lube customers donated more than 200,000 pounds of food twice the amount from 2001.
The five franchisees that own the facilities - Lube Management, Utah Lubricants, SRE Corp., Griffiths Fast Lube and Reynolds Lube - also collectively donated $30,000 to the Utah Food Bank at a presentation at halftime of a Utah Jazz NBA game. The donation more than exceeded a "Meal for Meal" match (the monetary value of the donated food as determined by the organization) that the franchisees pledged.
March is National Disabilities Awareness Month and the Jiffy Lube location in American Fork, Utah partnered with Miss Orem, Brittany Wiscombe, and Miss Utah, Natalie Johnson, to help raise money for the Dan Peterson School, the only special needs school in the Alpine School District.
From March 17-31, the American Fork Jiffy Lube donated $1 for every Jiffy Lube Signature Service Oil Change, resulting in a 13-day dedication to Miss Orem's service platform raising awareness for children with special needs throughout the state of Utah. A total of $500 was donated from the American Fork Jiffy Lube directly to the Dan Peterson School.
On Friday, March 28, 2003, two students from each school in the Alpine School District were chosen to ride in a limousine to the Dan Peterson School and participate in a check ceremony. Matt Johnson, a Jiffy Lube representative, was on hand to help present the check.
The Jiffy Lube location involved in this community project is owned by SRE Corporation, a Jiffy Lube Franchisee group.
