Community Involvement
Oregon/Washington

Support from Jiffy Lube and its customers to the Oregon Food Bank has become a tradition of the holiday season.

For the third consecutive year, 42 Jiffy Lube service centers in the Portland, Salem and Vancouver areas served as drop-off points for people to contribute food to the Oregon Food Bank last November and December. Jiffy Lube customers donated more than 80,000 pounds of food - 10,000 more pounds than in 2002.

The five franchisees that own the facilities -- Doorknob Lube, Lube Management, Trakul and -Evans Group, SRE Corp. and Edwards Lubricants -- also collectively donated $7,500 to the Oregon Food Bank as part of their "meal for meal" match (the monetary value of the donated food as determined by the organization).

Also during the 2003 holiday season, the same franchise owners donated $1000 worth of toys to the KGW-TV Great Toy Drive. The collection program provided toys to agencies throughout the area which provided them to needy families in time for Christmas.

Jiffy Lube has produced an educational video kit which will be sent to every Drivers Education program in the Portland, Salem and Vancouver areas in February. The video, titled "Your Turn Behind the Wheel," features Oregon and Southwest Washington students discussing the importance of vehicle maintenance plus provides information on how a car works, driving privileges and responsibilities, and the positive impact on the environment by properly disposing used motor oil.

Other components in the kit will be a way for Drivers Education students to express their personal ambitions and goals with the opportunity to win a college scholarship award sponsored by Jiffy Lube. Jiffy Lube franchisees and members of the Scholarship Review Committee, which includes teachers and school administrators, will choose seven students for the first round of scholarship finalists. Six regional scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded each year plus one statewide $2500 scholarship winner.
