The Pennzoil Panther Race Team and Jiffy Lube technicians in Indianapolis raced to raise more than $5,000 for local charities and also made history before this year's Indy 500.
At the Jiffy Lube service center at 544 W. 38th Street in Indianapolis, the Pennzoil Panther Race Team and Jiffy Lube technicians joined forces in an attempt to set the world record for most consecutive oil changes conducted in an hour and benefit local charities. The team conducted an incredible 58 oil changes in one hour, setting a world record for the feat, pouring more than 9,000 fluid ounces of Pennzoil Motor Oil!
For several hours, event attendees enjoyed free oil changes; autographs from Tomas Scheckter, Pennzoil Panther Race Team driver and Indianapolis resident; and performances by the Indianapolis Pacers cheerleaders.
Pennzoil donated more than $5,000, the cost of each oil change that afternoon, to the Best Buddies and Matt White Cure ALS Foundation organizations. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with intellectual disabilities by providing personal support and employment. Matt White Cure ALS Foundation raises funds for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) research.
At least six children in Indiana will have their wishes fulfilled thanks to the generosity of Jiffy Lube guests in 2003.
Eight separate service centers in Indianapolis and other nearby cities, operated by Jiffy Lube of Indiana, will stage Jiffy Lube-a-Thons during the year. At the events, guests who donate $15 or more to the Make-A-Wish® Foundation of Indiana will receive a free Jiffy Lube Signature Service® oil change.
Funds raised by the program will let the organization bring joy to at least six children with life-threatening illnesses. Jiffy Lube of Indiana conducted a Jiffy Lube-A-Thon for the organization last year in Valparaiso, Ind., and wants to host this charity event in other Jiffy Lube communities throughout the state this year.
