Two California Jiffy Lube Locations Offer Wave of Support for Tsunami Victims PCJL, Inc hosted a Lube-a-Thon last month at its locations in Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria, CA to benefit the tsunami victims of the coastal regions of Asia. The two store locations offered Jiffy Lube Signature Service® oil changes for 10 hours and all proceeds benefited the tsunami relief fund."
More than 50 employees volunteered to work the event at no charge some employees cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for customers while many more hustled to service a steady stream of vehicles. Many of the company's vendors provided support through supplies or volunteered to work at the Lube-a Thon. The event was promoted through a press release and fliers and prizes donated by local businesses were used to attract customers.
"It seemed like the right thing to do--for us to step up and help out those affected but the tsunami. Our company culture is one that encourages us to work together towards a common goal. I had the greatest feeling of pride to see all of our employees excited to be there and to hear the gratitude expressed to us by our customers. In an era where we are struggling to gain customer and employee loyalty, events like this bring it all together," said Sean Porcher with PCJL.
The J-TeamsTM at these two California locations serviced 197 vehicles to raise $12,347.58, which will reach Asia through the American Red Cross and World Vision.
The devastation caused by the Southern California Wildfires has necessitated help for the thousands who were affected. Jiffy Lube has responded to the call to help.
John Kenyon, president of the Jiffy Lube Southern California Coop, presented a check for $60,000 to the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles and its CEO Roger Dickson on November 7 at the organization's headquarters. The donated funds will assist in the rebuilding of homes, replacing clothes and other efforts.
"This donation came directly from our service centers," said Kenyon. "Most of the 20 service centers in San Diego County were closed for much of the last week of October during the worst period of the fire. Yet, even with the negative impact on our business, our employees still wanted to do their part. We are all members of the community and we were anxious to help."
The Jiffy Lube Southern California Coop encompasses 132 locations. If you are interested in helping, visit www.acrossla.org.
Jiffy Lube is supporting the American Liver Foundation again this year by raising awareness of the dangers of hepatitis C.
Flamingo Properties, a Jiffy Lube franchisee of Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties, has arranged for both KVYN-FM and KVON-AM radio stations to air a public service announcement (PSA) every time a Jiffy Lube Fleet is aired beginning in late March. The PSA's message is how to avoid the potentially life-threatening form of liver disease. In addition, Cinema Source Advertising is working with motion picture theaters in Marin to show screen slides with information on the important health topic next to Jiffy Lube screens before previews this summer and during the end-of-the year holiday season. These agreements have greatly increased the number of times that news of the dangers of hepatitis C is being delivered to the public than if the organization acted alone without Jiffy Lube.
The messages inform that hepatitis C is a virus that is spread through blood-to-blood contact and can cause cirrhosis and liver cancer. There are treatments that can reduce or stop the virus and help slow or stop progression of the disease.
