The phrase "rise like a phoenix" describes overcoming a seemingly insurmountable setback. It's fitting that employees of the 50 Jiffy Lube service centers.
Operated by Bove Enterprises, Inc., in the Phoenix region are determined to raise funds for those who bravely battle an ailment, in this case, Muscular Dystrophy. For several years, the service centers have asked customers to purchase a special "shamrock" for either $1 or $5 during special fund-raising periods. The funds are donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association®. The name of each participating customer is written on a shamrock and put on the wall of the location. As a special incentive for the employees to mention the program to customers, participating service centers receive plaques and a trophy is presented to the location that raises the most funds.
In 2001, $5,601 was raised. In 2002, more than $7,000 was provided to the organization. Bove Enterprises hopes that the 2003 fund-raising period from January through March will raise more funds for the organization than ever before.
